Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Stop editing Arab-Israeli conflict

[edit]

Please stop editing any page related to Arab-Israeli conflict, until you've achieved ECP status. Otherwise I will report you.VR (Please ping on reply) 16:36, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Ok, thanks for your messege.
Can you explain to me how do i get ECP status? BumbleBeeBelle (talk) 16:51, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have repeatedly try to remove that a child was killed in the Israeli attack, even after[1] I notified you twice. I'm reporting you.VR (Please ping on reply) 17:08, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I saw your messege after i changed it. I don't understand why you are so angry and aggressive, would be nice if you were more polite to new users.
Still you didn't answer my question, how do i get ECP status? BumbleBeeBelle (talk) 17:12, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Did you read the message I posted above? Specifically where it says "Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic."VR (Please ping on reply) 17:26, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok, now i see what you meant.
Still i don't think its an excuse to be so rude and aggressive toweards me. I am not your enemy, just a user like you on Wikipedia. BumbleBeeBelle (talk) 17:30, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just making sure that you understand that you cannot make any edits related to the Arab/Israel conflict, broadly construed, except for constructive edit requests on article talk pages. This includes articles that are not protected, and sections of generally unrelated articles that deal with the conflict, such as a statement someone has made in support of Palestine or Israel in their biography. Do you have any questions about extended-confirmed restriction that I can help you with? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:52, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
Yes thank you, i understand that now, your explanation and link do help.
I must say, i just don't understand we i am treated as some kind of enemy or in such a rude way by Vice regent, i am still new here and simply learning my way. BumbleBeeBelle (talk) 19:38, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately many editors have a short fuse when dealing with new editors in this topic area due in large part to a large number of bad actors and WP:SOCKPUPPETS. I apologize for your experience. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:47, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
I thank you for your kind words and your apology, but you are not the one who needs to apologize, you were the better person and the polite one. Wish you a good day. BumbleBeeBelle (talk) 11:30, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
