Anachronisms

[edit]

I have reverted your changes to Cao Wei regarding the Sogdian affiliation of the surname Cao. These sources referred to a situation hundreds of years after Cao Wei ceased to exist. Please be more cautious in the future. Folly Mox (talk) 18:32, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also at Cao Cao I have reverted this same material. I think you might be thinking of the Northern Wei dynasty. Folly Mox (talk) 18:35, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, as anyone familiar with Cao Cao is aware, he was adopted into the Cao family, so this material is doubly inappropriate. Folly Mox (talk) 18:38, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cacikli aka: it's usually bad form to ping editors to their own talk pages, so please forgive me if this annoys you, but I'm unsure you're aware of this page.
The sources you've been adding which affiliate the Cao surname with Sogdia do not apply to the time period of Cao Wei nor with the individual Cao Cao.
Some of your links have been index pages or notes where the terms appear on the same page. One source you've been adding, Étienne de la Vassière (2018). Sogdian Traders: A History. Brill. p. 120. ISBN 9789047406990. literally says: "In the first place... these names are attested, although rarely, to others than Sogdians: no one considers Cao Cao, who put an end to the Han dynasty, to have been a Sogdian, and rightly so." [emphasis added].
These sources discuss a time period centuries later than the topics you've been inserting them into. Please read your sources more carefully. Folly Mox (talk) 00:56, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Semsûrî. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Bohtan, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Semsûrî (talk) 15:49, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
