CAMP CONDEMNED: CAMPCONDEMNED is a small 4 room camp built near spar cove , on the east side of peaks island maine. It is believed the camp was originally named camp comfort. It is believed to have been built shortly after world war 2. The name of the original owner is unknown. The camp is just north of the former US ARMY MILITARY RESERVATION ON PEAKS ISLAND. The camp changed ownership until it was purchased by the aunt of FRANK V. COMEAU. Frank was originnaly from haverhill, ma. as was his aunt. FRANK'S AUNT LOST INTEREST IN THE CAMP. While ownership remained with the aunt. Frank began using and renovating the camp in the mid 1960's. Frank was unmarried and was active in youth programs in south groveland, MA. where he moved to in the 1950's. Frank began taking neighborhood kids to the camp in the mid 1960's. THE CAMP WAS IN SUCH DISREPAIR IT wasrenamed CAMP CONDEMNED BY Billy Ottani of south groveland.- The first generation of kids to enjoy the camp included zeke brodie, tim shanahan and david lee. A second generation began using the camp in the late 1960's. Thjis included jack bevelaqua, billy ottani, don lee amoung others. Eventually the camp which initially had limited plumbing an no electricity bot a destroylet toilet and electricity. The camp remained in use by the 2nd generation as well as a limite number of 3rd generstion inhabitants that included the famous boner brothers until theid 1980's. Camp Condemned became thw WOODSTOCK OF MAINE, COMPLETE WITH T-SHIRTS, BEER , POT AND GIRLS! Comeau, who had aged, was unaware of the goings on at his beloved camp. When he visited everything went back to a tranquil state. Frank died in 1986. Unfortunately his aunt dediced to leave the camp to her son and not frank. That ended franks association and the sunsequent south groveland association with th PLAYGROUND OF THE EAST. CAMP CONDEMNED, PEAKS ISLAND MAINE. The camp was purchased fro the aunt's son by the VAN DYK family of Deleware. The Van Dyks owb=ned a nearby camp. The camp is now called kamp K, in memory of camp condemned and kamp komfort. Thw van dys still own the camp as well as the one across the street. Mrs van dyk, keeps a log of old camp comdemned inhibnts who viosit on occasion.
