Important information regarding Wikipedia policies[edit]

Hi ChicagoJournals.

I notice that you have made a series of changes to articles on academic journals published by Chicago Journals. These changes have pretty much all had to be reverted because they were in conflict with our policies on neutral point of view and the manual of style guideline for lead sections. As a quick rule of thumb, whenever you write in superlatives ("most", "greatest", "popular", "important", and so forth) you are not being neutral; and when the lede does not start with "subject is a …" you are writing ad copy (or newspaper copy) and not a neutral encyclopedia entry.

Further, your username strongly suggests that you are affiliated with Chicago Journals or Chicago University Press. This is, in addition to being in violation of our policy on user names, in violation of our conflict of interest policy. If you are an employee, agent, or acting on behalf of Chicago Journals, this is also in violation of the English Wikipedia's policy on paid editing. The Wikimedia Foundation's terms of service (the legal entity responsible for providing the service that Wikipedia is built on) also requires disclosure of paid editing.

Wikipedia welcomes all good-faith contributions to the project that complies with our policies, but for entities covered by our conflict of interest policy there are some extra requirements and limitations in effect. In essence, you can facilitate and make it easy for unaffiliated editors to make the changes you want (for example, you can participate in The Wikipedia Library program to make it easy for volunteers to cite your journals), but cannot make such changes directly yourself. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the above linked policies (and the other core policies on the project).

If you need advice, assistance, or have questions about how to contribute constructively on Wikipedia please feel free to ask me (here or on my user talk page; if you include a {{ping|Xover}} template I will get a notification). You can also use the {{help me}} template to request the assistance of the pool of volunteers that handle requests for assistance from new or inexperienced users. If you would like to contact the Wikimedia Foundation I can try to facilitate contact with a suitable representative.

PS. Don't be discouraged by your changes being reverted and the long list of policies above. While there is a lot of policy and style guide to comply with, it's still going to be easier to get changes published on Wikipedia than it is to get an article published in one of Chicago Journals' journals! :) Best regards, --Xover (talk) 07:30, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

January 2018[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. Thank you. Beeblebrox (talk) 02:31, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
