It is protected because it is constantly targeted by a certain set of vandals. My talk page has regularly to be protected too. (At one stage it was being targeted 18 times in two hours) Right now it isn't because it hasn't been targeted for a few days. Rather than have users constantly fighting revert battles on my user page it has been left protected. Other users who have also been targeted by the same set of vandals also have their pages protected.
