S: Suspension of Habeas Corpus

O: Wednesday, September 27, 2006; Senate Floor; after lengthy debate about between Senator Specter and Senator Warner. Before the passing of a bill to suspend Habeas Corpus.

A: The Senate; the general public.

P: To convince the public and the senate that the suspension of Habeas Corpus is unnecessary

S: Ethos: the fact that the government can hold a person without that person’s right to rebut the government’s actions is not ethically right.

Logos: Suspension of Habeas Corpus is ineffective. Giving someone there rights to challenge accusations against them would not be a waste of time and wouldn’t harm the current legal system in any way. Imprisoning innocent people is not the way to win this war on terror.

Pathos: Uses example of his own family being nice and safe and warm in his own house, until “knock on the door.” Basically says American Ideal is in jeopardy with suspension of HC.
