First-Sale Doctrine[edit]

Hello, CopyOwner! I saw some of the changes you made to the First-sale doctrine page recently, and I wanted to thank you for editing Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure you had a chance to look at the pages about Wikipedia's Neutral POV and Citation policies. In particular, the content you added in several sections includes content that is a legal opinion or interpretation which, in addition to citing the applicable laws, typically requires a citation to a published case from a court; a ruling or opinion from a judge; or a published legal opinion paper or essay from a legal expert, scholar, or lawyer. Without that citation, another problem emerges - the tone of the article implies a bias. Particularly in the Computer software section, the implied bias is against the existing (and previously-cited) case law, and when unsourced material appears to be favored over sourced material, it can damage Wikipedia's credibility.

Since there's a good likelihood the content can be successfully sourced I've left the article intact, but I included a disclaimer on the article indicating the issue. If you're quoting the opinion from a published source, we need to have a citation from that source. If not, then the content in question should be removed. If you need some help with citation syntax or formatting, refer to the Citation page.

Thanks, I hope you stick around and contribute more! Lioux (talk) 10:20, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
