Great Britain
The nation is called, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island. Gavin Scott 22:01, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, 'United Kingdom' is the OFFICIAL short name of the nation. Unlike 'Great Britain', 'United Kingdom' is an officially acceptable name for the country. Cynical 12:13, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, If you read what I posted I didn't state it was the OFFICIAL short name, but its acceptable. I think your splitting hairs to be honest but your probably really against the idea of Great Britain based on your Pro-independence values, I just think putting UK, UK over and over gets a little sore on the eyes, however I will not undo your edit.Gavin Scott 13:12, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- It's got nothing to do with me being pro-independence (could you please explain why using 'United Kingdom' rather than 'Great Britain' is somehow a pro-independence bias?) - it is simply the fact that Gordon Brown was Chancellor of the whole UK, including Northern Ireland. 'Great Britain', by definition, excludes Northern Ireland and is therefore inaccurate in this case. 'Britain' is acceptably interchangeable with 'United Kingdom', but 'Great Britain' is not (because 'Great Britain' is the landmass). Cynical 14:16, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
