Sting vs. stinger[edit]

Hi, and welcome. While I approve and applaud your efforts, I would caution you against getting your hopes up. As far as the overwhelming majority of WP editors are concerned, the word "sting" can never be a noun, and can only be a verb, regardless of any evidence you can provide. If you read back over the history of the Stinger article you'll see that I and several other editors have tried, repeatedly and over many years, to assert that entomologists use the word "sting" as a noun, but over time these edits have been systematically wiped clean. I expect that yours will, too. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, or next week, but sooner or later, someone is going to come along and make it so that every single use in the text as a noun says "stinger". People simply will never allow technical definitions to override colloquial usage, I think it just annoys them too much. Peace, Dyanega (talk) 21:23, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
