Help asked for

[edit]

Hi. For starters let me say I have nothing against the subject Donpaul McAllister - he might be the greatest musician since the last greatest one but you won't get away on here with a word for word lifting of his biography with or without his consent. Tell it in your own words!

Basics

[edit]
  • Is your article about Donpaul or his record company? If it's Donpaul then the article will need to be renamed Donpaul McAllister - don't worry about that, it's easily done. If it's the record label then why start with a bio of Donpaul?
  • I'm going to assume that the article is about Donpaul in which case you will need to prove that he is a notable enough musician to merit his own entry on wikipedia. For this see Wikipedia:MUSICBIO as long as you can meet one or more of the criteria there you'll be ok.

Creating an article

[edit]
  • Wikipedia is easier than writing HTML and for what you want a lot of it is done for you. For example there is Template:Infobox musical artist which you just fill in to get the information box on the right.
  • Don't use colour in the title etc. Just type.
  • For headings use ==Text== for a level 2 heading and ===Text=== for a sub (level 3) heading.
  • A contents box will appear automatically once you have placed more than one level 2 heading.
  • Like I said say it in your own words, by all means paraphrase where necessary but avoid slavish copy and paste especially from official biographies. It sounds more like an advert than anything.
  • Sources. Try and use independent sources, not the official site or blog or fan site. If Donpaul is notable there will be reviews etc of him and his work.

If the article is going to take some time to write rather than risk deletion, create the article in your own user pages and then it can be moved when you're ready to publish a fuller article. E.g create the article here User:Dalilahmorgan1/Donpaul McAllister and then it'll be free from busybodies :-) like me suggesting deletion for whatevere reason.

Any problems leave me a message on my talk page and I'll try and help you. NtheP (talk) 17:57, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on McAllister Productions requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. Hairhorn (talk) 20:37, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Images/Notability

[edit]

Getting images right in infoboxes took me ages to suss out. I've corrected it for you. But the article is still missing that information that says why Donpaul is notable. There must be some independant reviews of him outh there somewhere? NtheP (talk) 15:03, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article move and info still needed

[edit]

I moved McAllister Productions to Donpaul McAllister as it seemed clearly about the person and not the company. Howver you still need to include information indicating why this person is significant or notable. Our specialized guideline for notability of musicians suggests some ways that a musician might be notable. But ultimately what is needed is significant, published reliable coverage, either in print or on the web, from independent sources. This means no blogs, no facebook pages or the like, no simple announcements of events (unless those events are themselves large enough to fulfill the WP:MUSIC criteria), and no sources that are primarily interviews with the person involved. The sources should demonstrate that reliable outlets consider Donpaul McAllister worth discussing. I did a quick googel search adn didn't find any sources I could add toe the article. But you may know of ones i missed, or of sources in print but not online. If you ahve a source but aren't sure of the proper way to format it in the article, just describe it in as much detail as you can on the article or its talk page and someone should assist in the formatting. I hope this is helpful. DES (talk) 20:32, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
