Spencer, I just now saw your comment, and have spent some time wandering all over your "Talk" page, but frankly have no idea how to simply communicate with you. I am a colonel in the US Army. I have a USMAPS yearbook somewhere at home to show James "Maynard" Keenan and I were in the same Prep School class. I didn't really know him, but I am sure as to the origins of the slang word "tool" that came into vogue from 1984-1985. Because this word originated specifically in our Prep School class, and gained popularity into our Plebe and Yearling (Freshman and Sophomore) years, I know exactly what it means and why James decided to name his band as he did. I doubt the person who provided the definition or explanation that it means everybody who is in the military is a tool and that's why he decided to drop out knew what they were talking about.
