Information icon Hello, I'm Acroterion. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Acroterion (talk) 01:41, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You… want a reference that explicitly says that Bari Weiss is an opinion writer..? DennyCraneLaw (talk) 01:46, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's already there for opinion writing. However, if you're going to assert that they're a "former" journalist, you'll need a citation that shows they've abandoned journalism, which seems unlikely in a columnist, many of whom retain journalism credentials. It's sort of like saying someone's a former writer when they just haven't written anything significant in a while. It is also a theme that we've seen to cast shade on someone whose journalism is being disagreed with, as merely "opinion." So you need a source. Acroterion (talk) 01:50, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve generally regarded “opinion writer” and “journalist” to be mutually exclusive in a way, though that mostly came from discussions with people in the media community who may have biases of their own.
While I disagree with the notion that Weiss is a journalist and assert that her focus is primarily opinion/editorial in nature, I do respect and agree with the rationale that you laid out for requiring a source for such a change. Therefore, I will leave your change in place as required.
Thanks for reaching me about Wikipedia. DennyCraneLaw (talk) 02:50, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'm happy to have been able to clarify. I have no issue with a sourced assertion to that effect, but it's likely to be hard to come by, and unlike, say, a retired athlete, it's a little harder to draw a clear line in these lines of work. Acroterion (talk) 04:13, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
