GAME DEVELOPERS IN AFRICA

We take a look at video game development in Africa and you cant help but notice a wonderful and industrious Kenyan gaming company known as Smash Games ENT. The gaming company claim to be among the first game developers in Africa gaining a good sum of 10,000+ downloads since their first inception into the market back in the year 2016. Its founder Eric Muriungi Gitonga who we talked to gave us a little narrative of how smash games came into being. He said he was fascinated by video games when his father brought home a computer back in 2002 and he was ever on the desktop playing video games. 14 years later he had developed Hunt The Dead the apocalypse. He was helped with his friend , Roy Matenga, who had a passion for video games. It took them 10 months to develop the video game to existence.

The video game HTD - The Apocalypse(Vumilia City) is about a soldier by the name Kibet who comes home from a mission and finds his home in an apocalypse. Now he has to stay alive to save the city or he will turn into zombie if he dies. The game is a time killer. You could spend literally hours playing the game and according to Eric Muriungi Gitonga no one has been able to beat the game. It has some good creative art to push the limit to indie developers in the country.

So how did they turn Smash Games ENT into a business? They realized soon that people were interested to play the game and wanted to reach more audience. The founder shares his story that he only wanted to create a video game that he will enjoy playing. A game that he had created from scratch all by himself and his counter part Roy Matenga. We asked them what they plan on doing and what other developments they are upto. They told us they are developing an android version of HTD due to public demand. Their long term goal is to be able to create fun and intense games to users and be able to take the center stage of gaming in the world. Giving users across the globe the kenyan touch of video games.

In short the IT in Africa is alive and well. Having young and creative individuals is phenomenal. We wish Smash Games ENT all the best with their endovours.
