Torbreck

Hi,

I noticed you have been working on the Torbreck article. Can I ask if you have any relationship to the winery? The edits made are mostly fine, but I have some concerns that there has been some introduction of promotional style language, removal of some negative sourced information and some removal of sources that were being used to verify information in the article. I'm going to work on toning down some of the language introduced and reintroducing some sourced material, but I would ask that you please keep these concerns in mind when making changes. Hello!

Thank you for noticing the action. I work with Torbreck and am their publicist in the USA. We had some people at the winery uploading information directly from the promotional material and I've been following along behind them trying to change it to a more neutral, Wikipedia style.

I think that I may have inadvertently removed some of the source info - I'm still learning how to make edits and include the proper sources and links (I'm not as computer adept as I would like to be)

I would like to upload some photos - better-quality logo shots, an image of the winery founder (Dave Powell) and some better-quality photos of the Torbreck wines (that bottle shot on the page right now looks pretty amateurish). Any suggestions you might be able to make as to how I can become a confirmed editor would be most appreciated.

Hi Dan, thanks for your response. In order to become a confirmed user, your account needs to be more than 4 days old and have made at least 10 edits - I think with your latest edit that you should meet that criteria now, so you should be able to upload files. High quality images are always appreciated as long as you own the copyright to the image or have permission from the copyright holder. Our policy page on images is here. Hi Camw~

Thanks for getting back to me. I appreciate your patience as I learn to work on the Wikipedia platform- I'm by no means a computer geek, just someone who enjoys the easy editing capability of say, my blogs on TypePad. The good thing is that it's forcing me to learn how to write code; the bad thing is that it's forcing me to learn how to write code.

I'll be making some further edits and uploads over the next 12-15 hours, just getting the story correct. I found the person in Adelaide who kept uploading the promotional crap and he's going to cease doing that and let me handle the changes and corrections. My primary goals are to replace the photo that currently graces the entry with one (or several) that better illustrate what Torbreck is about. I'll probably put up a bottle shot, a picture of the winery, and probably a photo of Dave Powell. I have full permission to use these, but I'll also go through photos I've taken over the years and perhaps something there will work out. That way they'd be used exclusively on Wikipedia and there'll be no issue about copyrights (but first I've got to find the photos)! THEN I've got to learn how to upload photos....

The other thing I'd like to correct is the entry in the Wine Spectator citation of Harvey Steiman's story on the change in partners at the winery when "Hungry Jack" Cowin sold his interest to Pete Kight. A figure of $20 million was mentioned and it was just Jack boasting about his business prowess. I'm searching for a published article that is more correct on this figure, as the result of this misinformation is a bit of tall poppy syndrome coming from some of the other producers in the Barossa. I will do that in such a way that the story is told with the appropriate references and citations. Of course, feel free to edit as appropriate (or necessary)!

Hi again. I understand the desire to correct the figure if it is false. For the time being I have left the Wine Spectator and Daily Telegraph articles as references, but also left the quoted figure out. The reason for leaving these articles as references for the moment is that we prefer to use published third-party sources where possible and replacing them with a press release is not ideal, see WP:3PARTY for more detail on this. If you can find an alternate article to use then that would be great. Thanks for the contribution of the photos, they definitely improve the article and help break up the text.
