Hello. I don't know if you're aware, but you keep inserting a ref which doesn't support your edit [1]. Do you have a reference which gives the Scottish Gaelic form of those surnames? Use that instead of the existing refs, they don't list any of those names at all.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 10:08, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Page edits

[edit]

Some of the names have pages of their own, so I moved them. The 'see also' section was really just an 'external links' section, so I moved them down there (WP:SEEALSO). The street names and hills aren't notable, IMO. For someone who isn't trying to promote anybody you've added quite a bit about yourself—tartans, crestbadge, banner.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 07:20, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brianann

I see what you are saying regarding some of the names, however they are name variations of the original gealic origin this was why I had included them as they are also mentioned by leading surname authorities as of the same origins. As for the external links I see what you are saying, would it be ok to input some of the links I had in see also to external links? The street names etc were the only reference I could find to locations again that is why I had included them, could they also be moved to external links? Finally promoting anybody, yes I have added crest banner etc, but if you check I deliberately left out the name of the armiger and being the only armiger of my surname I thought it of interest to anyone of the surname.

I understand that about the variations. Maybe an article could be made for the Gaelic root, and then the Anglicised variations can be discussed there. I tried to make one for MacEachainn. The 'horse' names are interesting, I think. I don't think that people are going to search for McGeachie when they are really after the surnames MacGahey, or McCaughan, or whatever. There's a template for surnames where you can list variations and related names, and shoot the viewer over to those articles. I think it'd be good idea to mention similar names within the body, but I think those names ought to be dissected in their own articles. I think the street names are really, really un notable. They're just streets, who cares? Links to maps don't show that streets or places are notable; maps only show that they exist (Wikipedia:Notability (streets, roads, and highways)). Are the three tartans different, or is it just one registered at multiple websites?--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 08:07, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brianann

Thanks for your interesting comments, an article on the gealic roots may be the way to go, the only problem I can see is it may overlap quite a lot on what I have on the surname page. What made you decide to do an article on MacEachainn ?. Where can I find the surname template?, as for the tartan, it is the same only registered with 3 different places.

Here's the template: Template:Infobox family name.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 10:09, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I left you a message over here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:DjMcGeachie~commonswiki#Tartan ; not sure if the system will automatically notify you, since the usernames aren't the same across the sites.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  04:06, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
