Shelley and Harriet Boinville[edit]

Hello there

I removed your contribution because there was too much trivial detail about Harriet Boinville for an article about Shelley. Perhaps you should consider writing an article about Harriet Boinville? Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 00:52, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thank you for the suggestion. I do plan on writing an article about Harriet Boinville and have first been trying to learn wikipedia by writing a few edits. Thank you for feedback about how best to make these edits. Drgn1900 (talk) 02:48, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I apologise for the brusque tone of my last response. It's difficult to get the right balance between focusing on the subject of an article and introducing interesting information about tangential matters. My concerns were that the biography section of the Shelley article is already quite long, and some of the information you added was a bit too tangential (the pet name etc). Also the suggestion that the Boinvilles introduced Shelley to vegetarianism is wrong (Shelley converted to vegetarianism a year before he met them). That said, it might be worth adding a little more information about this critical period in Shelley's life. We could say that Mrs Boinville was the wife of a French revolutionary émigré; that she ran a salon where Shelley discussed politics, religion and vegetarianism; that she became a confidante of Shelley during his marital crisis; and that he fell in love with her daughter so Mrs Boinville kicked him out. I will go back to the sources, draft something, and run it past you. Hope the Boinville article goes well. My only suggestion would be not to rely too much on earlier biographies which tend to be sentimental and too reliant on the dubious memoirs of Hogg et al. I've added a short sentence about the Boinvilles. Happy to discuss. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 05:11, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your in depth ponderings on this, I really appreciate it! I understand your edits and concerns of tangential matters. It is indeed a fine balance! Your addition about the Boinvilles sounds good. Thank you again! Drgn1900 (talk) 23:45, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
