Please note how I've reorganized the entry into subheadings and condensed the language. I've also added some hyperlinks to other entries on key topics, such as coming of age, rite of passage, and marriage. More could be added to help this entry to be more firmly integrated within existing Wikipedia entries. Note that the purpose of Wikipedia is to provide succint and clear access to information that is hyperlinked to other, related information so that a reader can have easy access to related terms and concepts.

The main issue I have with this entry is that very little is said about the actual ritual. At what time of the year, or at what time on the Maya calendar, was the ritual performed and why? Why is it call "Descent of the Gods"? Which gods? What are the events that happen during the ceremony? This entry contains relatively little information on the ritual itself. From what sources does our information about it come? Was it performed in pre-Hispanic times? How do we know? Is it still performed today? By which Maya groups? I found the information here to be quite skimpy. It's an interesting topic, but you haven't really said very much about it. Hoopes (talk) 23:25, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
