January 2023[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. DanCherek (talk) 03:08, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am not being compensated for my page on the Hanover Sheriff’s Office. I picked the username because I made the account because I am interested in Hanover history and wanted to make a page about the Sheriff’s Office. I understand why it was perceived I was attempting to promote the Sheriff’s Office, however that was not my intent. It was simply to centralize information about the Sheriff’s Office, especially in an historical context. My intent is to share interesting information about the Hanover Sheriffs office and Hanover history in general, and I will do my best to refrain from posting in a manner that can be perceived as promotion.

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please select an option from Wikipedia:Changing username and file a request as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. DanCherek (talk) 05:35, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

My intent was not for promotion. If the username change is approved I hope that will mean that I am allowed to edit posts again. I have been a long time user of Wikipedia and had no intention to violate any rules. I hope this can be considered a misunderstanding, and I can be permitted an opportunity to share some more information on a community I grew up in and care very much about. Thank you.HistoricHCSO (talk) 04:36, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I will go ahead and lift the block now. Before making any more edits, please follow the steps at Wikipedia:Changing username to request that username change. Thanks for your understanding, and please keep in mind the copyright points that I mentioned above. And thanks for your contributions! DanCherek (talk) 05:35, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
