Wrong kind of snow

It was first used of the Class 317 units on the "BedPan" line due to fine powdery snow getting into the cooling grids for the chokes in the traction controllers. This was in the winter of 85/6. Adrian Shooter was GM of the BedPan line and did a sterling job rustling up substitute rolling stock. Typical replacements included triple 313s and Class 44/45 on Mk1's. Adrian instructed leaflets explaining the problems be placed on every seat in the replacement trains. The same Adrian Shooter retired as CEO of Chiltern Rail several years ago, and is involved with the D-Train (Class 230 project) today.
