Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Dyelongjustice. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:24, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@HickoryOughtShirt?4: - Hi there, is there a way that I can post the information you removed, but via Wikipedia’s rules? That information was not promotional and was in the spirit of Wikipedia’s mission, though I may not fully understand how to post correctly. Thanks in advance!

Hi Dyelongjustice and thanks for the response. If there are third-party sources discussing her influence they can be added to the article, but simply linking to the Amazon profile or website etc. doesn't fly. May I ask what your connection with her is, seeing as you've exclusively edited about her career. I would also like to ask how you came to own the copyright of the photo, since it seems to be owned by Ray Giubilo. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:37, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, well yeah that makes sense now why it seems promotional (an amazon link does seem dubious, I just didn’t know how to post it better)! Please feel free to disallow what has been posted. In regards to the photo, Ray sent me the photo a few years ago, but if that is copyright infringement, please don’t post it :). I’ll apologize in advance!

Thanks for the kind response and answers. I appreciate your willingness to follow our rules and guidelines. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:06, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
