Wikipedia policies

Hi.

First, if you are in fact Éamonn Coyne, the above may seem a bit confusing; you would think that it would be obvious to Wikipedia that you, Éamonn, have permission to copy material from your own site and into Wikipedia. In fact, while you do have that permission, a) it's not obvious to us that you are you; it could just as easily be an overzealous fan or an employee of a record company, b) the repercussions of publishing something with permission can be pretty major, so Wikipedia has this process to go through when people want to contribute copyrighted material...

Second, Wikipedia has a raft of policies and guidelines related to its content; the major ones you should be familiar with are WP:RS, WP:N and particularly WP:MUSIC. Also, you should look at WP:COI.

Third, there's also a raft of stylistic rules for Wikipedia; a typical press release almost always violates a great many of these. WP:MOS, WP:MOSBIO cover some basics. Press releases commonly violate WP:PEACOCK. There are doubtless others, but that's a start. If you get past the other hurdles, don't worry too much about the style/formatting rules; other editors will eventually do some cleanup on the article if your formatting is even vaguely close to standard.
