Azucena Panes-Huervas

Azucena Panes-Huervas, often called Mayor Sunny, is a Filipina politician who served as the first female mayor of Valencia City, Bukidnon from 2014 to 2025.

Early Life and Education

Huervas graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, major in Economics, from Central Mindanao University (CMU).

Political Career

Before entering politics, Huervas held various roles in her community, including parish president, barangay councilor (kagawad), and barangay captain (punong barangay). She served as president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) from 2008 to 2010, becoming an ex-officio member of the city council (Sangguniang Panlungsod).

  • 1997: Began her political career as a Barangay Kagawad (councilor) in Catumbalon, Valencia City.
  • 2002: Then served as Punong Barangay (village chief)
  • 2010: Elected as Vice-Mayor of Valencia City.
  • 2013: Re-elected as Vice-Mayor.
  • 2014: Became Mayor of Valencia City following the predecessor's criminal conviction.
  • 2016, 2019, 2022: Re-elected as Mayor for three consecutive terms.
