User talk:Ed whittaker
Hi, you deserve an answer, sorry I didn't see this before now. At any rate, Wikipedia isn't a web directory, it's an encyclopedia of notable things. By that I mean it isn't just a list of websites deemed interesting by someone, the websites listed in WP are supposed to be ones that need an encyclopedia article. We don't just link to every person we find interesting, for example, that person has to do something notable. Same with websites. Now, what notable means is endlessly controversial, but a generally agreed upon definition is found at WP:WEB which lists various criteria by which a site might be notable.
A lot of people confuse this was some kind of condemnation of their website. It isn't. I have a blog and personal site, not as impressive as yours, but nevertheless, they don't belong here. Hopefully I'm conveying the general idea that WP isn't just a list of every bit of verifiable information, and there is criteria for inclusion. The deletion process you witnessed as an example of how that all works, anyone can vote, and then an admin makes a decision. Anyone can also nominate a page, anyone can vote on a nomination (keep, delete, merge, etc.) So if there are pages you think aren't as notable as yours, you can nominate them for deletion. You can also recreate the page (as long as you don't persistently do it in the face of repeated deletions, and you make substantial changes from the deleted version). If you still think it is notable enough for WP, I'd suggest doing that and writing it to establish that notability. Specifically, link to related articles, and have related articles link to the page.
If you have any questions, reply here or on my talk page. Thanks for keeping it polite on the deletion discussion... many people in your position don't do that! --W.marsh 16:55, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
The file File:Asked flow diagram.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unused, low-res, no obvious use.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:11, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
