Talk:Comparison of web conferencing software

I have been frustrated in my attempt to discern the types of software, services, and features of web meeting, conferencing, classroom, and webinar available. I turned to this wiki page and received some help, but found that I needed to go to each of the providers and ask more questions. In some cases, I needed to try their services (if free) in order to determine for myself what the features and limitations were. WebEx provides one example for the changes that need to me made. I've used this service for many years as a Linux user. Every time WebEx instituted a change, I needed to get help from other Linux users to defeat or find solutions to roadblocks that prevented me from using the service. I could never use all of the regular features; notibly video. The current chart has many notes for Linux users, but the bottom-line is that WebEx states that they provide no support for Linux. The chart should simply state that fact. Potential Linux users could easily be warned and not (as I did) spend countless hours trying to make it work. While it can be done, it is not something a novice Linux user should attempt.

Following are some suggestions that would make the chart information easier to interpret and use. Add columns previously proposed: -Server based -Client (Desktop) based -Poll/Survey

Columns to be clarified: - Embedded - This is confusing, because the services use words like "integrated" that may or may not mean that they provide phone service. Often they mean that another phone service needs to be used in addition to their service. Split this to two columns: Phone Service Provided and Outside Phone Service Required - Upload (all columns) - This should simply be one column (yes/no) with notes for the format of documents. - Co-browsing - Change to share desktop (as proposed below) with a note regarding browser use. - Mobile Device Support - Change to "Mobile App" - VOIP - Change to VOIP only, since some are strictly VOIP and add a column for both phone and VOIP - Security Access - Change to Security with notes to define the type.

In addition to the columns listed, amended, and those proposed, consideration should be given to adding the following columns: -Free (no cost) and participation limit (number) -Maximum participant capacity (existing column: Simultaneous User Capacity) -Corporate vs Entrepreneurial -Browser based (requiring no software or app) -Voice Only -Desktop Sharing -Tests and Quizzes -Continually Open Rooms -(there may be more as each software/service is qualified by a wiki page)
