Hello EquityAdvocate,

It appears that on January 27 you edited the Wikipedia article on Universal Tennis Ratings by adding these two sentences under the "Definition of Universal Tennis Rating":

The downside is that women are capped at a maximum UTR of 13. It does not matter if a woman with a UTR of 13 consistently beats men with ratings between 14 and 16, the logarithm will not allow the female player to earn a 14 or higher.

As there is no link or source associated with this addition, I am curious as to what source you relied upon for this assertion.

I work for Universal Tennis Rating and can assure you conclusively that these assertions are both 100 percent false. Women are not "capped" in any way by the UTR algorithm. In fact, the same Wikipedia article later notes that two of the top women pros, Simone Halep and Serena Williams, had UTRs of 13.26 and 13.20, respectively, as of January.

As far as women with UTRs of 13 consistently beating men rating 14 to 16, if that were ever to happen, such women's UTRs would rise with every such win and if they accumulated enough of them, could theoretically rise to 14.0 or even higher, as the UTR algorithm does not "cap" anyone's rating based on gender. The sky's the limit, and performances against specific opponents are all that the algorithm takes into account. Drcraiglambert (talk) 22:46, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
