I have reproduced your text below.
Harper Lee wrote an incredible, historically accurate and monumental tale of a young girl growing up in a very racist society. Her characters in this novel experience struggle both within themselves and with loved ones due to the attitudes around them. Jean Louise “Scout” Finch struggles the most in this novel which is interesting because she represents Lee herself. Scout is a strong headed young woman who will not be swayed by anyone else’s opinions on race. Lee also has some very strong ideas on race as she expresses in both her novels. Harper Lee based her story on true events[13] and her characters represent many of her childhood friends and family. For example, Scout’s father, Atticus Finch, is a combination of Lee’s own father as well as her sister. Lee’s father was a skilled lawyer just like Atticus Finch. Atticus’ personality and beliefs, however, are derived from those of Lee’s sister Alice. Lee’s father “did not believe that blacks were ready for full equality”[14], whereas Scout’s father fought hard for equality and African American rights. Lee writes her story based on what she has seen throughout her own life. Her characters and settings are based on real events, although most of the time not written word for word.
