Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, FGGeneral. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Fantasy Grounds, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 17:16, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You need to respond to the above comment. Your editing, and your username, strongly implies that you are connected to Fantasy Grounds in some capacity. Please read the above and respond before editing further. Canterbury Tail talk 18:25, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for contacting me. Yes, my username is provided as FG General to make any edits or suggested edits by me obvious that it is being done by someone connected with Fantasy Grounds. It was brought to our attention that our pages are very outdated and lacking a lot of content and material relative to other industry partners and competitors. Any edit I provided was done in a purely factual basis without any opinion or superlatives injected.
Any links to Fantasy Grounds on other pages are for content that has been officially licensed by SmiteWorks for use with Fantasy Grounds. Again, these are just statements of facts and should not be impacted by any conflicts of interest.
My relationship with Fantasy Grounds is as follows:
My name is Doug Davison. I am the President of SmiteWorks USA, LLC, which is the creator of Fantasy Grounds and Fantasy Grounds Unity. As the President, I receive compensation from SmiteWorks.
If you have any question about any items that I added, please feel free to ask me or to independently verify the claims. I won't make any statements which are untrue, but if it is prohibited to post about content in which you are intimately familiar whenever there is a financial relationship, then I leave that up to you and to the moderators at Wikipedia to decide on whether or not to allow those. You can quote me directly or list me as a source if that is appropriate.
If it is more appropriate, I can simply post a link to the wikipedia pages on our forums and ask if one of our community members would mind updating them to be more accurate. FGGeneral (talk) 19:32, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. As stated in Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, It is highly discouraged to make edits to articles which you have a COI (Conflict of Interest) in as it can cause Bias and claims that are not reliable enough for the Wikipedia Project. You ARE allowed to suggest edits in the articles "Talk Page" with the "request edit" template. If you wish to make edits directly. It is advised you place the "Connected Contributor" template on the talk page of the article in question.
If you are confused about any of this please visit the Teahouse and they can help you out.
Cheers. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 20:56, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Note: This does not apply to articles in which you do NOT have a COI. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 21:00, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website - I have blocked this account. Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a change of username of your current account here. The new username must represent only yourself as an individual and comply with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you.
