Welcome to Wikipedia and a note about external links[edit]

Hi Finbar. Thanks for editing Wikipedia - good editors are always welcome, especially experts! You might want to check out our welcome and 5 Pillars pages that give a bit of an introduction to editing Wikipedia.

Because of the link you added to prospect research I also wanted to point out our external links guidelines which ask editors to refrain from adding links to websites they are associated with directly to articles - instead, if you think it fits within our guidelines, please propose it on the article's talk page and let unconnected editors decide if it's a good fit. Since you're an expert (I'm assuming you are Finbar Cullen) in the area of charitable fundraising with a position on a publication and your own consultancy you might also find our guidelines on editing with a conflict of interest useful. These go into greater depth on how to add your expertise to articles while balancing Wikipedia's need for editorial integrity and neutrality.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask by leaving a message at the bottom of my talk page or by typing {{Helpme}} (with the curly brackets) on this page along with your query - an experienced editor will come along shortly to try and assist. Happy editing! -- SiobhanHansa 13:35, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding the personal websites of friends or colleagues is still a little out of keeping with the intent of our guidelines. Please consider adding well sourced content to articles. Your expertise could be a great boon to Wikipedia. While external links can be useful for readers they really do little to further our mission to build a free content encyclopedia.
