List of suicides

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for working to improve the site with your edit to List of suicides, as we really appreciate your participation. Hi. Please stop material to the List of suicides that is not supported by cited sources, as you with this edit. While your addition of Tor Jonsson improved the article, the source you cited makes no mention of the method of his suicide.

Also, the sources you cite should be secondary sources, and not primary ones, and not ones that mirror content or cite Wikipedia as seen in the "Kjelder" section of the source you cited. Thank you. Nightscream (talk) 01:04, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I notice you again added method of suicide for Tor Jonsson to the List of suicides article this edit. Just to clarify: Is it your position that the two cited sources indicate this method? I ask, because they do not appear to do so. The first source, which is written in Norwegian, reads:

"Det har blitt hevda at det tette samlivet med mor og søster hadde gjeve han seksualangst og øydelagt kjærleiksevna hans. Han søkte trøyst i alkohol og nervetablettar og til slutt i døden."

When I use Google Translate to translate that into English it reads:

"It has been argued that the close relationship with mother and sister had given him sexual anxiety and devastated his loving ability. He searched hardest in alcohol and nerve tablets and finally in death."

Is this an accurate translation? Because if it is, then it would seem that it does not support the material you wish to add, since it indicates that Jonsson used "tablets" in life, but they do not state that he took them to end his life, nor does it mention what his method of suicide was. If we were to make this leap, then wouldn't we have to include alcohol tool, since it's mentioned in the same passage? Is there a meaning to this passage in Norwegian that is not translated clearly in English?

As for the second source, which is written in English, it makes no mention of his method of suicide.

In addition, the source you cited when you first added the Tor Jonsson entry to the article, also does not support the use of tablets. Translated into English, it reads:

"In the winter of 1951, Tor Jonsson invited Ingjerstrand. In January he spent several days in the main town, and at night until January 10 he was to share a hotel room at Bondeheimen with his friend Tarjei Vesaas. At night, Tor didn't come to the hotel room, and the next day Tarjei went out to Ingjerstrand and found him in a coma there. In spite of money and artistic success, Tor Jonsson chose death suicide, and he fell asleep at Ullevål Hospital on January 14, 1951."

In addition, the bottom of that page indicates that the information on that page was taken from, among other places, Wikipedia. You cannot cite sources that merely mirror or repeat information from Wikipedia, as that is circular sourcing. Moreover that Wikipedia article does not mention his method of suicide.

Unless you dispute any of this, please do not revert that material back into the article. If you wish to do so, you must cite sources that would be considered reliable under Wikipedia's source reliability policy. Any material not accompanied by citations of such sources cannot remain.
