Natural vegetation

  • Tropical rain (evergreen) forest – occurs in the area of heavy rainfall, dense forests, mahogany, ebony and rosewood – areas – Andaman and nicobar, parts of NE, and western slopes of western ghats
  • Tropical deciduous forest – found in most parts of country – sal, peepal, nee, teak, etc. – UP, MP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharastra
  • Thorny bushes – Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, eastern parts of western ghats – leaves are in the form of spines to reduce loss of water – cactus, babool, keekar
  • Mountain vegetation – at higher altitudes – trees are conical shaped (thus called coniferous) – chir, pine, deodhar
  • Mangrove forest – can withstand saline waters, found in andmans, sundarbands – tree sundari
