talk:Early World Maps I am wondering why the map of Pierre d'Ailly used by Christopher Columbus does not figure on this list of maps. It is reputed to be the source of his error in thinking that the Atlantic (and the globe) was much smaller than had been thought previously and thus gave presented to him the possibility of reaching India by a water crossing. His personal annotated copy is in the collection of Fernand Colombus in Seville, Spain. It was "published" in 1410. Columbus had a much later copy. There is a copy of it from 1483 in the BNF, Paris. [1] I do not know how to visualize the copy annotated by the hand of Columbus and which he carried with him on his first voyage.
