It was nice to get your message and yup, you did your first talkpage posting very well! Well done!! To answer your question about locked pages, you should probably try and edit anyway... sometimes the lock is there but you can still edit. And this will also be especially true once you have made 10-15 edits around and about WP. So find some typos that you can fix and fix these or do a bunch of edits and saves in WP:SANDBOX If you still can't edit a page, you can always go to the talkpage of the article where you see the typos and mention them there.
