[edit]Hi! Thanks for creating this tool! I have started using it. Is it useful to share some cases where something goes wrong? For example, this edit. Dajasj (talk) 22:05, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Dajasj: Thank you for using the tool and reporting the issue. I have fixed it with this update. I copied the earlier version of the article to my sandbox, where your issue had occurred, and tested the new script, which successfully removed only the external links. Please let me know if further issue occurred. Thanks again!! GrabUp - Talk 03:47, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Another suggestion; remove {{Webarchive}} if it follows a removed external link. See here, where the external link in the template is removed but not the template itself. Dajasj (talk) 20:51, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Another one: ignore external links in infoboxes: see here Dajasj (talk) 20:57, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Dajasj: Read this, The tool will also target external links in the infoboxes if they do not use the appropriate template, which should be {{URL|https://example.com}} to be ignored by this script. There are many articles where spammy external links were added to infoboxes as well. It is the author’s error not to use the appropriate template, which is also recommended in the infobox. If I set to ignore infoboxes then no spammy links will be removed from infoboxes. GrabUp - Talk 03:52, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ah makes sense. Although it is a bit awkward because it removes the link but keeps the text in the infobox. But maybe one has to manually fix that indeed.
- There are some infoboxes btw that don't work with {{URL}}, such as here. Dajasj (talk) 09:08, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- I also realised that {{URL}} notes: If you wish to display text instead of the URL (e.g. website instead of example.com), please do not use this template. Instead, consider using normal wiki markup or Template:Official website..
- This template itself considers normal wiki markup to be a viable alternative. Dajasj (talk) 13:33, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've added a preview popup that displays before removing external links, highlighting in blue the text from which external links were removed. GrabUp - Talk 06:49, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the preview, that's perfect! Dajasj (talk) 09:09, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

- What happened here, with yellow span being created? Dajasj (talk) 14:33, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- A very small error: here Dajasj (talk) 13:47, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
Noice!
[edit]I like how it shows the preview before it publishes the edit. Thanks for the tool! Myrealnamm's Alternate Account (talk) 17:02, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
