Purple Heart and MSCC[edit]

I reverted your edits at Purple Heart. Barger was awarded Meritorious Service Citation Certificates, which are not exactly analogous. The sentences you added at Purple Heart didn't make that difference clear. The average reader assumes "Purple Heart" refers to the modern "combat wounds" qualification. I've also tagged the Barger article because it needs some serious source cleanup.

I appreciate your edits and would like to work out a solution to these problems. Chris Troutman (talk) 16:38, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

unreferenced[edit]

I have reverted another edit of yours at Charles D. Barger. I can't emphasize enough that you need to cite your sources, especially when you change content. Changing dates of birth without citing sources looks like vandalism. I see more sources that use 1892 than 1894 for his date of birth, so I would recommend discussing this change on the talk page. Mr. Troutman: I'm not too savvy about how to use Wikipedia, and for that I apologize. I have attempted to correct Charlie's biography, as it has been wrongly depicted for so many years. His father, George, was my uncle, making Charlie my first cousin. He was, in fact, born in 1894. His parents were married on July 2, 1893, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and he was born on June 3 the following year. He is listed as being born in June 1894 in the 1900 census; age 15 in the 1910 census; age 25 in the 1920 census; and his WWI Draft Registration Card shows his date of birth as June 3, 1894. In 1922, he was shot five times, one being in the head, and after that time his birth year began appearing as 1892. While that is the year listed on his death certificate and headstone, it is wrong. If you would prefer to keep the wrong year, that is entirely up to you, but I assure you, sir, that I had no intention or desire to vandalize anything associated with my heroic cousin's memory. My only intention was to set the record straight; nothing more. I have an extensive biography written about Charlie, which is for the family, so if you'd like to change or delete my work, I'm okay with that.
