Information icon Hello, I'm Orangemike. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added, because it seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:20, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I was notified when submitting the page edit that it was flagged as possible spam, but thought it was a mistake. After reading the username policy, it certainly is inappropriate, but was unintended. Please change it to a neutral account name, like hamsterbit. Additionally any audio links in the future will reside on the Internet Archive. Thanks for keeping wiki cleaned up. Decline reason:

This is a procedural decline only: there has been no response to questions posed by an administrator or others in >3 days. A new request can be made, but it must address all issues surrounding the block, including any questions or discussion since your unblock request was placed. Here are a few key questions:

YES

YES

  • Do you understand that to be considered for an encyclopedia article, the subject must be notable?

YES

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 23:11, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

NOTE: PLEASE DELETE THE FOLLOWING FROM WIKIPEDIA

Please delete the link on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_F._Kennedy

With this Sentence (contained in External Links) 1963 ATC Audio—(Air Traffic Control) Unedited

That links to this file http://www.electricdisk.com/downloads/1963_11_22_ATC_JFK_Tape.mp3

ADDITIONALLY, THE EDIT I MADE TO THE JAMES EARL RAY PAGE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Earl_Ray

Was to add this sentence (contained in External Links) Audio recording of James Earl Ray arrest announcement

Which linked to this file http://www.electricdisk.com/downloads/JamesEarlRay_Arrest.mp3

(it was this link, which caused the block of my Wikipedia account).

Since you cannot unblock my account, please delete all references from Wikipedia that link to my site. I do not know where they all live at this moment in time. Thanks Electricdisk (talk) 02:23, 19 August 2013 (UTC)ElectricDisk[reply]

What does that have to do with the questions you were asked above? I will add, however, that not all sites should be linked to, as that is considered to be WP:SPAM. If Wikimedia itself hosted an OGG file of the MP3 file, then we could link to it ... but not typically to an external site. If you represent that website, it's very very obvious why you may never, ever link to that site - driving traffic to your website is promotion, and is never permitted on Wikipedia. So, even if you change your username, you will never be able to add these links (✉→BWilkins←✎) 10:22, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I will add that the links are gone. The page Special:LinkSearch reveals that the only links to that site at the moment are the links on this talk page. ~Amatulić (talk) 17:41, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I did not know my username was violating wiki guidelines. I didn't know. I did make some edits above to describe past edits that are probably still in violation (but not intended)If you change my username, the answers to your questions are above, along with links that need to be removed. Electricdisk (talk) 19:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

After consulting with the original blocking administrator, I have unblocked your account, conditional on the following:
  • Before doing anything else, go to WP:CHU/Simple and request a change of username, and wait for that change to be implemented by a bureaucrat.
  • Refrain from adding external links to sites you're associated with, and refrain from promoting yourself, your organization, or your website.
Good luck and happy editing. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:37, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
