Thanks for your work re: Melb Trails. Do you feel like creating pages for all the red links (Trails) I've added???

Then maybe add a call to all BV people to fill in the pages ??  !!

See: http://www.bv.com.au/forums/

All of Melb. could be done in an afternoon!!

eg this guy knows the north end of the Dandenong Creek Trail well: http://members.iinet.net.au/~jdekter/commute/commute.html

These people have good pics of the Anniversary Trail and Capital City Trail: http://www.weaselsnout.net/web/pics.nsf/albums/MARR-6P7BZW

And this guy has done some nice work on the Gardiners Creek Trail: http://treadly.thingoid.com/2007/01/12/photos-of-my-commute-route/

And what about these quys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxrp-_zZGlE

I figure the Blind Creek Trail could act as a template for all the trails - what do you think?? I would also like to see a page that shows the whole network with a map and a page that talks about what needs to be improved or plans in progress or the like. eg Darebin Creek trail to be extended to Yarra River Trail. Skeleton Creek trail to be connected to Federation Trail, etc.

I took up cycling (again) about a year ago and was astounded by the lack of maps and directions re trails in Melb. Since then I have ridden most of them.

Wow - you've done some real thinking about this! Sounds like an excellent plan. What about a WikiProject ("Cycling in Melbourne" or "Melbourne Bicycle Trails")? I'd also add creating maps (possibly printable versions too?) - I spent some time playing around making the maps for Scotchmans Creek Trail; they could probably be improved but I thought they were a good starting point. The overview information could probably go on a page with the same name as the project.
I also got back into cycling about a year ago but haven't had a chance to explore too many trails yet, but agree that a lot of the information isn't up to scratch. Helminth 21:33, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Helminth

I haven't an account with Wikipedia and at the moment I'm feeling "anonymous". However, if you create the pages (see templates below) I will try and come up with some text. Then others will be able to express their general disgust and correct it all!! It's just a matter of clicking on a red link and hitting the "create" link - hah.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Bicycle_Trails_in_Melbourne http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Cycling_in_Melbourne

Roger on the maps - it's a major problem. I would like to use Google Earth in some way - see:

  http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html

and "Wikipedia and Panoramio mashup"

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Earth_4

It scraps Wikipedia for Lat/Longs templates and then shows Wikipedia icons in situ - see:

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dights_Falls

and look at the Lat/Long co-ords in the top right corner.

It uses this template (look at the edit page):

   37°47′50″S 145°00′03″E / 37.79722°S 145.00083°E / -37.79722; 145.00083

If the same could be done for a path rather than a point, we would have it made. Then GPS info from http://www.bikely.com/ could be used. But that's not going to happen real soon - I suspect people are interested in doing same.

See with Google Earth installed on your PC:

How did you make your map without copyright problems?#$!! - I thought it was a pretty good effort.

Hoping you get this message and it makes some sense to you - still trying to get all this Wikipedia stuff worked out myself. If you want to start a WikiProject go for it. How about "Cycling in Victoria, Australia". However, I think it's more about getting as much collaboration fronm as many people/cyclists as possible - as per my first post above.

I've started creating pages from templates. Will take me a while to get through them as I'm pretty busy at the moment with life.

I created my maps from scratch to avoid any copyright problems. I couldn't actually do the same for a trail that I didn't know so well - I ride Scotchmans Creek Trail every day so I know it pretty well. The Victorian Government's land channel interactive map is great for confirming road names (and is much more accurate then google maps) but local knowledge is always the best way.

Hello! Did you consider putting {{Expand}} at the top of the trail stubs you're creating to help get other people to possibly edit them too, or do you plan on going back to edit them on your own? Just a friendly question.  :) --Strangerer 00:23, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still learning about wikipedia, so thanks for the Expand tip. I didn't plan on editing them all on my own so they could all do with this. Helminth 00:30, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've been thinking about maps and after the labour intensive effort in creating the Scotchmans Creek maps I found the OpenStreetMap project which is probably a good way to create Open Source maps. I'll see if this is a workable solution.

Hi Helminth

Thanks for correcting some of my typos and creating pages for the trails in Melbourne. It has been a great help. Feel like creating some more? See the redlinks in:

Template:Bicycle_Trails_in_Melbourne
Template:Cycling in Melbourne

Also "Amy's Ride" and "Oppy Family Fun Ride" in the later, are linked to inappropriate pages and need their own pages as well. I'm not to sure if all this stuff I have being doing suits an encyclopedia and one editor tried to revert some of my edits - but it's still all there !! You make the pages and I will try and add something useful to them. Alternatively you may reckon I need a user name - that's not going to happen.

Some guy wacked in a photo of the Dandenong Creek Trail and another did some work on the Belgrave Rail Trail, which is all good. In fact the later did a great 3d model of Ferntreegully Staion for Google Eart - why - I don't know but he even has the tickect machines and the poatoe chip packet dispensers modelled - all quiet amazing. This may come up with the correct link:

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=d32186f10846361a14914d5fa5796c62

The page for the Outer Circle Trail, also known as the Anniversary Trail or "Anniversary Outer Circle Trail" should probably be renamed to the "Anniversary Outer Circle Trail" and all links altered accordingly.

A great day to-day - went to Sandringham station and rode the Bayside Trail and the Sandridge Trail into the CBD. Have to confess I'm getting a bit burnt out writing about the trails!

If you have any comments or want changes let me know.

AfD nomination of Mark Conner

[edit]

An editor has nominated Mark Conner, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mark Conner and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Buses WikiProject

[edit]

I notice that you have edited lists of bus routes recently. You might be interested in helping with the new WikiProject buses, especially the proposed Bus route list guide. We are also working out when a bus route should have its own article and other issues. --NE2 15:27, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Hendersons Road Drain Trail

[edit]

The article Hendersons Road Drain Trail has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

NN bicycle path

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
