[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Lastsoundofdefense. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Matt Jones (golfer), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Lastsoundofdefense (talk) 17:33, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Citations

[edit]

Thank you. The source I used was listed as a blacklisted source, and it was the only one I could find, so I left it unsourced. HollowThoughts (talk) 19:16, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

All content must be reliably sourced; please do not reuse citations that do not support the content you are adding, as you did at Patrick Cantlay and Tommy Fleetwood, which mask the lack of necessary sourcing. Please also note that the content being added should be suitable for a summary biography; as such, there should not be excessive detail on individual round or tournament performances and no flowery language or weasel words and phrases. Dude. Firstly, the sources seem as close as I could get to relevancy towards the written piece. Secondly, I've seen other pages with freakishly long descriptions of unnecessary info. The info I've added is a bit much but is very informative on the subject. HollowThoughts (talk) 03:54, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Citations must explicitly support the prose they are place adjacent to, not simply be relevant to the subject in general. Seeing unnecessary detail in one article is no reason to add similarly unnecessary detail anywhere else. I think it would be best if you read through the relevant core policies and guidelines. wjematherplease leave a message... 09:55, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not unnecessary detail, and there would be complaints had I not added citations, so how would that work? HollowThoughts (talk) 13:25, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
When writing biographies, we are summarising the main points that (would) appear in secondary sources; that does not include blow-by-blow accounts of individual tournaments or rounds that are forgotten as quickly as they happen. Placing citations that do not support the content added is disruptive; perhaps even more so than not adding any citation at all. For the content you have been adding, a simple web search returns dozens of sources. wjematherplease leave a message... 14:55, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
