Hello Infopearson. You seem to have a question about Mario's origins so I hope I can help clear it up for you.

Mario was created as "Jumpman" in 1981 by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto for the arcade game Donkey Kong. In 1982 Donkey Kong Jr., a sequel to Donkey Kong, was made. Nintendo of America Localized Jumpman by naming him after their, at the time, landlord Mario Segal. The name "Mario" then became his name worldwide. "Mario" is an Italian name so Mario took the appearance of an Italian-American. In 1987 Nintendo held auditions for the voice of Mario which they prompted the actors that they were "An Italian plumber from Brooklyn" Charles Martinet got the part and now does the voices for Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Toadsworth ,and several other character.
