Orphaned non-free media (Image:Marge Simpson and coat of arms bearing patriarchal cross.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Marge Simpson and coat of arms bearing patriarchal cross.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 22:49, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

56, all over again

[edit]

Ohhhh, István...seeing those flags flying again on our userpages has made me seriously nostalgic for our valiant work and brilliant triumph this time last year. That was probably one of the coolest and certainly one of the most satisfying things I've done and I only wish we could do it all over again! Even the fights, even the panic....well anyway, patriotic greetings and a great big virtual hug from one wiki-56er to another. :-)

And a quick question regarding a magyar nyelv--if while at dinner with a bunch of magyarok tomorrow evening to celebrate the anniversary I wanted to propose a toast in Hungarian "to freedom, to Hungary and to the memory of the 56ers", would "A szabagságre, Magyarországre és az ötvenhatosok emlekére" be grammatically-stylistically correct?? :) K. Lásztocska 14:58, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, István, I was not paid; money is a bourgeois tool of oppression! But I certainly do look forward to your statement. Biruitorul 04:14, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oooh boy. Talk about things going red-hot. I'm quite apprehensive about all this to be honest, as I can see it spinning way out of control within hours and probably resulting in getting us all banned. (Well, probably not you, as I can't remember ever seeing you so much as put a dent in a guideline; I on the other hand have probably smashed my share of rules which will now surely come back to bite me in the backside.) On the other hand, it had to happen sooner or later--it was either this, or wading through an endless miasma of disputes, move wars, insinuations, insults and general nastiness 'till kingdom come. Sometimes you just have to jump headfirst into the szar and get it over with...I just hope it doesn't finish me and Biru off along the way.
On the other hand, I have always had a sort of morbid curiosity to see what kind of reaction an RfC against me would get. K. Lásztocska 05:32, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I'll be careful. (I don't think I've ever written anything in such convolutedly formal language as my statement yesterday at 2 am!) I just keep having visions of the endless Piotrus-Ghirla War dancing before my eyes...maybe I'll just go work on Szigeti some to stay out of trouble. :) It's good to have you back here fairly regularly, incidentally. If there's anyone who can keep a situation from degenerating into childish stupidity, it's you (plus, I just like having you around--I missed you!) Anyway, guess we'll just have to see how it all plays out. K. Lásztocska 16:17, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, that's a good point. It's my natural tendency to be an uncompromising perfectionist with regards to myself, and then to get all angsty and miserable when I fall short of my unrealistic goals...ugh. I didn't intend to withdraw from the RfC, incidentally, just to be very careful to walk my diplomatic tightrope without falling off in either direction. But now I'm off to partake in some lunch! :) K. Lásztocska 17:59, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh come now, I may be young but I'm not totally ignorant...I know what the opium of the masses is! ;-) You're right though, I can totally picture, erm, some of my contemporaries looking at that comment and taking you for a junkie. LOL K. Lásztocska 01:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Sorry, I know you know these references - my stating the obvious wasn't meant for you per se, but since: 1. we don't "own" our userpages and 2. postings (like diamonds) are forever - its better to clarify for the sake of those who's memories are fading (fast) (tanks God). I've been told my humour is subtle, often to a fault and such a reference is getting subtler each year.István 14:09, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know it wasn't directed specifically at me, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity for a bit of razzing. :P Incidentally, your sense of humor always hits me at exactly the right angle--I seriously think you're one of the funniest people I've ever had the pleasure of communicating with. Subtlety and wit are all too rare these days, and your particular brand of them is always a delight, to me anyways. :) Don't be getting all broad-brush and lowbrow on me, please! :) K. Lásztocska 17:00, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have no clue, to be honest. I don't even know how RfCs end, but I will look into the matter. Biruitorul 22:57, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goodness...looks like there's no end in sight. Can I be a bother for a moment and impose on you briefly? Can you please tell me a joke, or some random story from the old country, or something? I just had an absolutely horrible, miserable and awful day and I could use a little cheering-up...and the imminent approach of 4 November isn't helping my mood. K. Lásztocska 03:40, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, of course Id love to help if I can. Am I wrong in assuming you are a complete romantic in the literary sense - seeking solace in the long ago and far away, in a reality made of hope and ideals? Im not sure the realities of Central Europe can really match the romanticized vision. Asking for a dose of Hungeedian cheeriness is a dangerous thing, you know. (BTW, being a romantic at somewhere around your 20th birthday is not an illness, its actually a healthy state of mind as its really a proxy for you looking forward to your life ahead as possibilities are opening much faster than closing. If its about a guy, I am absolutely sure its his loss, not yours. If its about university, and I have to make another assumption (dont confirm or deny this - I recommend not putting ANY personal info on the wiki) that you are starting undergrad - this is a tough time, I remember freshmen dropping out like flies after the first semester, not so much because they couldn't handle the curriculum but rather had a hard time adjusting to living away from home, attendance suffered and midterm results shockingly revealed that they could not coast by on lectures w/o notes (or elective homework) to achieve even a passing grade. Then too was the crushing peer pressure, overwhelming desire to be accepted and "look cool" (which will completely disappear by your Junior year) and finals hanging like the sword of Damocles... Whatever it is, remember this, or in subcontinental terms "the wheel turns" (applies equally to success and failures, happiness and sadness). But here's another one - "for everything there is a season and a time for every purpose" and if you are a freshman then November is the time to focus on study and finishing your first semester (or quarter) with a good GPA because you're playing for keeps now. Wikipedia must be put on the back burner (or probably better "off the stove" for now - much to our loss) (sometimes I too have to remind myself that wiki doesn't sign my paycheck) and you must take care of the important things. I want you to succeed. István 15:13, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I am most definitely the biggest (literary-sense) romantic anybody's ever met. Sometimes it stinks, but usually I like being this way. :) Regarding my "romantic ideal" of Central Europe--I know it's no paradise, I know it's got more problems per capita than quite a lot of other places, but it's home! I'm not quite as delusional as I might seem, but all the same I know where my homeland is: "Tiszán innen, Dunán túl." (poetically speaking of course--I don't advocate shrinking the borders any further!) Whatever the hardships there, I'd still rather deal with those problems with my people in my homeland, rather than being fed with a silver spoon in exile. (Oh God...case in point, I'm a romantic. That sounded terribly silly, I'm sure...) :)
My studies are actually going rather well, so your first thought was pretty much the correct one (although it relates more to him suddenly being on the other side of the planet and my realization that I might never see him again, rather than a simple rejection.) Egad, talk about getting too personal...I don't mean to be dumping all my troubles on you, I'm sorry. I'd somehow never read the story about Solomon and "This too shall pass," thanks for the link! It's a good thing to remember. There's a lovely image in a lot of Rumi's poetry about an endlessly-turning waterwheel, which I think is pretty much the same concept.
Anyway, I'll be OK. Don't worry about my studies, I know what's important for me to do (and you may have noticed my recent lack of any contributions of any substance to the Wiki) though I may take your advice and put the Wiki even further on the back burner for now. I won't totally disappear but I won't spend too much time writing entire articles or long, rambling off-topic messages (um, like this one.) And then come Christmas vacation I'll suddenly re-appear all cylinders firing... :)
Thank you so much for your thoughtful message, it actually means a lot to me. :) (If you're anything in real life like you are on here, I can safely say that your daughter is a very lucky little girl to have a dad like you.) :) Anyway, enough of my ramblings--signing off for now. My very best and warmest wishes to you and your family! K. Lásztocska 16:18, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, then you just need a real hug from a real person - here's a virtual one. Thank you for the kind words and Good luck on your studies. István 16:42, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Real" or virtual, you're a good friend. Köszönöm nagyon szépen!K. Lásztocska 20:05, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, wow, you are so sweet! :) I actually just noticed your userpage modifications and am on my second time listening to the Liszt as I type, but I didn't know it was all for me! (*blushes*) :) I hate that it's Nov. 4 and our 56 flags have to come down now...I'm working on remodeling my page just for the day, but I don't know if it'll work, I'm basically improvising the HTML code. :) K. Lásztocska 04:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ummm, but shouldn't the flag stay up until Nov. 10? Resistance held out until then, those flags were still flying until then...

LOL

I knew what you meant. ;) Although admittedly people younger than me (and possibly some people even older than me) might not know. If you had left it unexplained, we could pretend it was an inside joke. :P —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  03:27, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I'll be the railroad tracks. The mountie is more suited to Cliff as his hair is nearer that colour and I'm not very comfortable wearing the dress. Will (talk) 21:38, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, then it looks like I'm the damsel in distress as usual. At least I get to pat the István-horse on the nose... ;-) K. Lásztocska 21:43, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it does seem like him; Bogdan doesn't appear to have Checkuser, so it's possible he made a mistake -- but do you think so? Biruitorul 03:05, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I made some changes; I give you my permission to make more if needed, as long as the essence is preserved. Biruitorul 23:11, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

and Szigeti once again

[edit]

just a quick late-night (post-studying) ;-) question--I know you suggested the creation of a "Family Life" section for the Szigeti article, and don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea, but do you think the article could stand for FAC without it? Basically I'm just anxious to get the FAC process started and (hopefully) finished, so I can finally get this project finished--I've actually been planning/hoping/wishing to write an FA about Szigeti since before we started our 56 project. Ugh, and then there's the still-unresolved matter of the sound clips...though I'm hoping maybe someone we encounter on the FAC could be of assistance?

If you don't think it's ready yet, tell me honestly. I won't let polishing it up get in the way of my real-life work--I'll just work here on weekends, or at odd hours of the middle of the night. :) And then once Szigeti's gotten his mainpage place in the sun, it's on to Bartók! ;-) K. Lásztocska 07:39, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, your study-first comments were quite true, and I do have a tendency to procrastinate. I just wanted to reassure you that I'll use my time well. :) (Incidentally, I'm in much better spirits of late. Indeed, the wheel turns.) K. Lásztocska 13:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC) Oh, and pfff--of course you're qualified to offer comment. You may not be a musician but you know good writing and a well-structured article when you see it, and that's the matter at hand at this point. Now I'm off to sight-singing class... K. Lásztocska 13:47, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks for the input so far. I figured it wasn't ready yet...I may try fixing the lead later tonight. The section on his family life will take a bit more research but I'll try to have it up soon (I'm not quite sure where in the article I should put it, though...the biography section is pretty chronological, and the family section will suddenly take a step back and survey with a wider temporal lens...hmm.) Anyway, thanks again, I'll see what I can do. Best, K. Lásztocska 17:09, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MRSA

[edit]

Hi István! All users have access to this, it's not an admin tool—see WP:UNDO. That edit pretty much introduced an inaccuracy, if not POV; the study clearly states that these are estimates. As for the more-deaths-than-AIDS comparison, this was actually made in an accompanying editorial, to which I don't have access :( I've tried to reword that paragraph. I've removed the Washington Post figure of 12,500 AIDS deaths as other sources report 16–17,000 instead; I'm not sure where people are getting their data from. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 16:52, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As for "Mr. Sa", I've never heard it; I was actually requesting a reference in the edit summary. Pronunciation of "MRSA" seems pretty variable, and I've also read physicians urging for it to be spelled out (M-R-S-A) and not pronounced as a single word. There really ought to be a reference there. Best wishes, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 16:52, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! As soon as there is a consensus regarding the rename process, I'll do it immediately. :) Until then, I can't. NCurse work 07:36, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
