John, I am no expert, but, regarding the New Style Calendar, I can not imagine that the King would adopt anything from the Pope. Even if the New Style calendar is equivalent to the Gregorian, I do not think it proper to state the King adopted the Gregorian. Possibly a minor point to us today, but, I suspect, quite important in its day.
