Speedy deletion of Jamie Caponera[edit]

A tag has been placed on Jamie Caponera requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I'm the administrator who deleted the page Jamie Caponera, and the editor who tagged the page, Alexfusco5, has asked me to inform you about why. Basically, people get to be the subject of articles in Wikipedia because they are notable, and that word has a special meaning in Wikipedia terms. (You can read the policy at this link.) Notable means "special" or "important" or "out of the ordinary". I think I can explain it this way, in terms of people. I'm going to assume that you live in a small town in an American state, just for this example. The only notable person in your town might be your mayor, and the reason that Wikipedia would know that person was notable was because there was articles in the local newspaper about him or her, and maybe articles in the newspaper of the capital of your state. Frankly, depending on the size of the town, the mayor probably wouldn't be notable. The fire chief isn't notable, the local radio disk jockey isn't notable, the school principal isn't notable. The governor of your state would be notable. There might be a few other notable people who came from your town -- maybe an Olympic swimmer or a professional hockey player or a movie star was born there. But you, or your teacher, or your parents, or anybody you know, probably isn't notable, because no one is writing articles about them in a bunch of newspapers and magazines. Even people who are on TV aren't necessarily notable. For instance, people who appear as contestants on "Wheel of Fortune" aren't notable. People who appear as contestants on "Jeopardy" aren't notable unless they win a whole bunch of times and get to be famous. Even if Jamie Caponera was a contestant on "America's Next Top Model", she wouldn't be notable unless she won, and possibly not even then. Yes, the girls that are in "America's Next Top Model" are beautiful, and they're kind of notable, but not really really special -- and that's what it takes to have an article in Wikipedia. The reason why only notable people get to be the subject of articles in Wikipedia is because there are more than 5 billion people on earth, and the whole Internet isn't big enough to have articles about all of them, so we have to be selective. It's a privilege, not a right, and there are a lot of volunteers here, like me and Alexfusco5, who spend their time making sure that we only have articles about notable people. I'm willing to believe that Jamie Caponera is a smokin' hottie, but unfortunately that's not good enough -- she has to be notable enough that somebody in another country (like me -- I live in Canada) might know who she was, and then people would be lining up to write a Wikipedia article about her. I hope this explains things to your satisfaction. Wikipedia might not be the right place for your article, but there are other places where it might fit -- like MySpace, for instance. If you have more questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Accounting4Taste:talk 03:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's only one place on Wikipedia where you can say what you want (within some limits), and that's your own user page. Your user page is supposed to contain information about you, so if you devote it to telling people about someone else, there might be some objection. Your user page is found at User:Jamie Capnoera lover. My recommendation would be to make it as much as possible about yourself; tell people your opinion and write it in a way that it's about you and what you think, and then there's a better chance that no other editor or administrator will object. If someone does object, there's not much I can do to help, so keep your fingers crossed. I hope this helps you. Again, if you have questions, you can leave a message on my talk page.
