Vanity articles

[edit]

Hi Jcc239. Thanks for your message. Whilst I'm sorry for your loss, you do need to understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a random collection of pages. That means that, no matter how much you miss your late friend, an article on them, plus an invite for all the people who knew him to come and add their memories really isn't on.

Wikipedia is not a memorial. Wikipedia is not free hosting space (our servers cost money to operate and people give donations toward them on the basis that we're furthering the knowledge of the people of the world; they don't give money so people can have an advertising-free, all-expenses-paid web host service for their friends).

These are the policies that the article was deleted under: Criteria for Speedy Deletion A7; notability of subjects for articles; vanity articles and projects; deletion criteria and guidelines for vanity articles. If you need any more information about this, please visit this page I wrote about vanity pages.

I hope that makes things clearer for you. If you'd like to contribute to our encyclopedia in a constructive manner, here's the standard welcome message we provide to new editors, which has useful links to tell you what we do, why and how:
