Steph's Peer Review[edit]

Open Pit Mining[edit]

This article is a good choice to work on as it has been listed as a level 5 vital article and is of high importance. The talk page is quite lengthy and there are many factual errors to correct. Open pit mining is a very broad topic and the article is very uninformative at its current stage. Adding a large portion of negative opinions on pollutants to the article will have an unbalanced coverage on important topics. The lead paragraph in the article is brief and does not mention pollutants, I would add a sentence to the introduction about the section you will be adding. The journal articles referenced are reliable and unbiased however the way they are reinterpreted in the article contributions have a negative tone towards open pit mining. With respect to health concerns I would make that a different section and reference medical journals or hospital websites. When certain materials are being mined there are different pollutants that will be present and harmful, safety precautions/airborne carcinogens for different materials being mined could be subsections.
