Signature[edit]

Firstly, it is good to see you are signing your posts. However, your signature should include at least one internal link to your user page, user talk page, or contributions as required by WP:SIGLINK. This is for your and others benefit of been able to see who you are and contact you easily. If you need help doing this, please say so. CT Cooper · talk 12:18, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So am I to understand that I do not HAVE to sign my posts, but if I do, then I HAVE to link to one of those places you mentioned?—Preceding unsigned comment added by JimmyBallgame (talkcontribs)
Wikipedia:Signatures is a guideline only in meaning that it should be subject to "common sense" and the "occasional exception"; its guideline status does not make it optional to sign your posts. Failure to sign posts will cause a lot of irritation, as people will often have to sign your posts for you as the bot is not always reliable, and I can think of no reason on why a user would be unable to sign their own posts. So my answer is: you do have to sign your posts, and you do have to link it to one of the places I mentioned. CT Cooper · talk 19:42, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, so I'm confused. I thought you said in our discussion earlier this week that signing your posts was not required. As you said, not signing irritates people, but that signing was not mandatory. Now you seem to be telling me the opposite.—Preceding unsigned comment added by JimmyBallgame (talkcontribs)
My apologies if I have confused you. By "not mandatory" I meant in terms that you are unlikely to get blocked for not signing your posts, and if you choose not to it will probably be put up with. However, with the problems and irritation users not signing their posts can cause, I would not describe it as optional. I would strongly advice you to continue singing your posts; I can provide help on adding the links required if your having trouble. CT Cooper · talk 17:56, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
