EARLY LIFE AND CAREER
John Patrick is the co-founder of “Organic by John Patrick,” a notable fashion brand known for its commitment to sustainability and organic materials. Born in Elsmere, New York, a suburb of Albany, John Patrick's introduction to fashion retail was completely serendipitous. Having always collected vintage pieces, at age 15, he opened a store in Saratoga Springs selling vintage. Later on he took a millinery class at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan and started making hats. The legendary but nor defunct, Barneys New York started carrying John Patrick's hat collection in 1982.
INFLUENCES ON LIFE AND WORK John Patrick’s childhood in a Hudson Valley commune, being brought up by free-spirited parents with tremendous respect for nature, is responsible for the designer's ecologically minded approach to business and life as a whole. Before "organic", "sustainable" were words du jour, more than 20 years ago, John Patrick was one of the first designers to establish a relationship with organic farm collectives in Peru and since then has tirelessly spearheaded more sustainable manufacturing methods in other parts of the world. John Patrick has always been passionate about environmental consciousness and ethical fashion. In 2004, John Patrick, in partnership with Walter Fleming, founded Organic by John Patrick. Organic by John Patrick is a renowned fashion brand celebrated for its commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious practices The brand tangibly manifests a strong passion for ethical fashion and environmental responsibility.
