I am disappointed see that entity resolution has vanished and been merged with record linkage. Not everyone agrees with this and I think that these areas of practice and research are in too early a stage to start collapsing these terms with any authority or consensus. There needs to be more time to sort these out. I thought that this was the way that Wikipedia was suppose to work. I do not have a problem cross-referencing record linkage, entity resolution, identity resolution, and related terms but I don't agree with collapsing them all under one term at this point. I personally think that entity resolution is a much more general and encompassing term that record linkage. Both "record" and "linkage" are very IT implementation oriented and not very descriptive of the area of study. I am the director of university research center named "Entity Resolution" (ERIQ) (ualr.edu/eriq), teach a graduate course on entity resolution, and have a book title Entity Resolution scheduled to be published in November. I would definitely like to see an entity resolution page reinstated so that I could make contributions to it.

>> Dr. Talburt's remarks above are spot on. While undoubtedly well-meaning, the collapsing of "entity resolution", "identity resolution", and "record linkage" does a disservice to wikipedia readers by oversimplifying the current state of research.

What would be most beneficial is to maintain separate entries, include a clearer comparing and contrasting of the three terms within each entry, and providing cross-links to the other entries. 2020outlook (talk) 20:02, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
