A tag has been placed on Sam hanby requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Triwbe (talk) 13:49, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- Basically, Mr. Hanby is not notable enough at this time to meet our inclusion criteria. I'm sorry, but this means that we can't have an article on Mr. Hanby at this time; note, however, this doesn't necessarily preclude an article being written about him within the next few years. Should Mr. Hanby's career succeed to the point that his racing achievements are beyond the local level, then it would be more appropriate for us to have an article on him.
- I do hope you understand the reasons for these type of restrictions; we have had problems in the past with local bands creating articles solely to promote themselves, as well as high school athletes that have had articles created that their subjects have found violated their privacy, and just about everything in between. There are also extra concerns about the biographies of living persons, because if information isn't verifiable through widely accessible sources (i.e., not just the local press), then there may be really quite nasty libel concerns that could seriously damage a person's career or reputation needlessly.
- I am sorry for not responding to you earlier, I was quite tired yesterday and only felt up to doing a few minor edits. (All work on Wikipedia is done on a volunteer basis, even administrative tasks.) I do hope you enjoy editing here and find a subject that interests you enough that you'd like to contribute to its coverage here. I would like to point out in the future, though, that it's bad form to blank other editors' userpages and talk pages, and could be construed as vandalism, so please try to avoid that in the future. Also, it makes it simpler to understand who's saying what and how to get back to them if you type four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your message. The server will replace the tildes with a your name with a link to your userpage and a timestamp. Thank you, and thanks once again for your interest in contributing to our encyclopedia. —Scott5114↗ [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 19:58, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
