Information icon Hello, Juliasw. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page James C. Hathaway, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 14:10, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please respond to this issue rather than continuing to make the same kinds of edits to the article. You used the edit summary "rvv" which stands for revert vandalism, and the edits you were reverting were clearly not vandalism. Melcous (talk) 22:13, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, sorry I am relatively new to Wikipedia editing. I'm helping a colleague update his Wikipedia page in my own time as he is getting ready to retire. I meant to include just the revert code, not vandalism but must have used the wrong one. I am a bit confused by how to report the COI information. Could I send my affiliation to you for notation? Thank you. Juliasw (talk) 14:05, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. As noted above, please read the conflict of interest guidelines and then there are two key steps:
  1. You need to disclose that you have a conflict of interest - the easiest way to do this is on your user page
  2. You are then asked to use the talk page of the article to request edits rather than editing the article directly - the easiest way to do that is to use this link: WP:Edit Request Wizard.
Thank you Melcous (talk) 14:21, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Melcous, thank you for this information. I had read through the COI guideline yesterday but was still kind of confused by where to insert that.
All of the edits I made were to update the information on the Wikipedia page so it is reflecting accurate and up to date information. It was a lot of work that is now simply undone and I didn't compile everything to be able to easily request the edits on the talk page now. Would you or someone else be able to revert to the last edit history I made? I don't know how else to do this without losing all of the time and energy I just put into this. Juliasw (talk) 14:25, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I added my affiliations on my user page and added the COI on James Hathaway talk page. I'm hoping someone else can make the revert back to my final edits. I am in no way promoting anyone or any organization or even reframing the bio, just updating publications list and related questions. Juliasw (talk) 15:23, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
