Layout of the Periodic table


Alkali metals The alkali metals is the first group in the periodic table. Alkali metals have 1 electron on their outer shell. Alkali metals are softer than any other metals and can explode when exposed to water. Alkali metals can not bond as well as other metals. The Alkali metals consist of: Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Caesium and Francium.


Alkaline Earth metals The alkaline earth metals are the second group in the periodic table. The alkaline earth metals are very shiny and mostly white. They have an oxidation of 2, because of this it makes them very reactive. Transation metals Transation metals are the third group on the periodic table. The transation metals consist of 38 element, making it the largest group in the periodic table. The transition metals have a lot of electrons, when bonding they use there two outermost shells to bond with other elements. Most of the transition metals are shiny, or bright coloured.


Post-transation metals

They are the 4th group in the periodic table. Post-transation metals are soft and mostly fragile. The difference between Post-transation metals and transation metals is that the post transation metals have a lower melting point, and a boiling point lower than transation metals. Transation metals have a have a higher automatic stregnth than post-transation metals. They are half transation metals and half nonmetals,  there chemical bonds have a few close friends than other metalic elements. 


Noble gases There are 6 noble gases found in group 8, on the right side of the periodic table. They were once called inert gases because of there amount of electrons making them extremely non reactive. They is Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, and Radon in order of increasing atomic weight. They boil at low temperatures.


Metalloids Metalloids have properties metals and nonmetals. They look like a staircase of elements on the periodic table. Metalloids are useful in computers and calculators. They are located along 5 groups, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.
