Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Katieklops. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Anthony Hudson (soccer), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Bgsu98 (Talk) 14:58, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the guidelines and resources - I'll look into it to stay compliant in the future, as I appreciate the platform's due diligence and non-bias. I follow soccer and obviously have my more favorite managers/coaches. When coming to this page for updates, I always feel that there is a clear agenda by certain disgruntled fans, especially from Colorado Rapids, that seem to constantly edit the page to highlight any potentially negative information about Anthony, which I feel is very unfair. Is trying to remove content that is clearly added to show a person in a negative light considered Conflict of Interest? I obviously want to adhere to the rules and guidelines, but also feel that the addition of specific information on a constant basis should also be scrutinized and the agenda of that addition should be questioned as well. The fact that most of your edits are on one article only might lead one to believe that you might have a conflict of interest or a relationships of some kind with the subject of the article. Note that a conflict of interest does not preclude you from being able to edit the article. The links that I provided should give you more details.
You are welcome to take any concerns to WP:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard if you believe information pertaining to a living person might not be accurate, might be inflammatory, or anything else you might find concerning. Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:54, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can see how it can look like that. This is the only page of the ones that I read that has these edits, which is why it's the only one I made edits to. Since my edits seem to be interpreted as a Conflict of Interest, I'll follow the specific guidelines regarding that. This is the first and only page I've edited on Wikipedia and am still very new to the editing process and procedures, so I really appreciate your guidance with this!
